New Music Video - Grieves 'A-Okay'
I was first turned onto Grieves by a good friend of mine named Derek, who always seems to be on top of the latest releases from Rhymesayers (think Atmosphere, Brother Ali, PROF, Aesop Rock). Grieves, Seattle rapper/producer, recently released his fifth studio record titled Running Wild, and the fun, infectious track 'A-Okay' is the latest to get the music video treatment.
The video is directed by Ryan Gross, AKA Pants. Throughout the short film, we explore a series of scenarios in which there are two very contrasting sides. The debbie-downer, from a constantly negative and pessimistic viewpoint on everything from a fun night out at a bar with friends to a game of dodgeball at a local gymnasium. Alternately, we see Grieves' ecstatic love for life, and, as they sometimes say, for letting the good times roll. He's seen at that same bar scene pouring out the shots, and refereeing the dodgeball game.
For those who haven't checked out Grieves' latest record, dive into what Pitchfork called "Intensely honest...raw emotion" throughout the 15-track album. Consequence of Sound also says kind things about it: "Lyrically lush anthems...well-crafted and poignant." Dive into the album with the Apple Music and Spotify links below!
