Song of the Week - 'MUMBO JUMBO' - Tierra Whack
Tierra Whack's 'MUMBO JUMBO' is one of those tracks that I decided to give a shot while scrolling through the new releases last week, and I have not been able to get it out of my head. The entrancing, fascinating way this song flexes and snaps production-wise is unreal. And yes, I realize the lyrics are nearly indecipherable - that adds to the eerie, haunting aura that is encapsulated perfectly in the below music video. It perfectly embodies what you would think of as a spooky, Halloween track.
Tierra Whack is from Philadelphia, and has quite the history, dating back to before 2011. Back then she used the rap moniker Dizzle Dizz, and was known for freestyling on local radio stations and in front of rappers like Meek Mill and A$AP Rocky. She has changed course sonically since ditching the rap moniker, and seems to really have captured the sound and aura she's attempting to emanate. Some past singles of hers that you can dig into are 'Child Please' and 'Toe Jam'. This song is produced by Nick Mira and Ric & Thaddeus, and the creepy dentist trip gone grotesque is directed by Marco Prestini. 2018 is looking to be a big year for Tierra Whack.
