Song of the Week - 'Tried Up' - Ama Lou
Before we begin, I just want to thank all of you publicists, media folks, and bands who have been sending me great tunes from new and established artists - which is where today's Song of the Week comes from! Thank you Carina Contreras at Grandstand Media for sending along London's Ama Lou, who just today released her debut EP, DDD, which features 3 fantastic slow-building, snappy r&b/pop songs. All 3 are wonderful tracks, but 'Tried Up' is my top pick, followed extremely closely by the serene 'Wrong Lesson'. Ama writes and produces all her music, as well as being the creator of all visuals and films with her sister Mahalia. Stay tuned for a special treat in video form surrounding this EP in the coming weeks.
For those wondering Ama Lou's sound, genre, etc, look no farther than who she was tapped on to open for on tour - Jorja Smith. The two share a similar ability to let their songwriting skills shine front and center over a minimalist beat that bends and pulls at you at exactly the right times. If you're a fan of Jorja, or Kali Uchis, RAY BLK, or NAO, please do yourself a favor and dig into Ama's debut release!
